How To Get To Lan Ha Bay

In southern Halong Bay, Lan Ha Bay is a more idyllic alternative to its neighbor. Regarding transportation, a vast majority of tourists choose Hanoi, Hai Phong, and Halong Bay as the three most popular starting points with various modes of transport.

From Hanoi

The distance from Hanoi to Lan Ha Bay is about 160 kilometers and transfer is pretty easy.

By bus

Bus is a good option for budget-conscious travelers to transfer to Cat Ba Island. There are a variety of tourist buses running directly from Hanoi to Cat Ba that you can choose from. The total transfer time is from 3 – 4 hours.

By car

Those who choose to drive a private car need to follow Hanoi – Hai Phong Expressway to Got Pier. From here, take a speedboat or ferry to Cai Vieng Pier, Cat Ba Island.

Alternatively, tourists can drive to Cat Hai and park their cars or motorbikes at Cat Hai Parking Lot then take the cable car Cat Hai – Phu Long to Cat Ba Island. The ticket price is 150.000 VND/adult/one way and 100.000 VND/one way/child under 1m.

Upon arrival at Cat Ba Island, you take a taxi to Ben Beo Pier then buy a ticket to get on a boat and visit Lan Ha Bay. The price is around 80.000 VND/pax.

By train

For a more scenic journey, tourists can take a train from Long Bien Train Station to Hai Phong Train Station. There are 4 trains running on this route namely HP1, LP3, LP5, LP7. This is the cheapest means of transportation with the ticket price only around 110.000 VND/pax.

From Hai Phong

Cat Ba Island is only 15km from Hai Phong City. Therefore, many tourists from Ho Chi Minh City and further destinations choose to fly to Cat Bi International Airport then access Cat Ba Island by speedboat at Ben Got Pier which is 30km away.

From Cat Bi International Airport, you take a taxi or motorbike taxi to the pier then buy a ticket to Cai Vieng Pier, Cat Ba Island.
